The content of this inquiry provides opportunities for students to develop historical understanding through key concepts, including identity, civilisation, innovation and revolution, orientation in time and space. These concepts will be investigated through an inquiry into ancient civilisations. Students will understand that the ancient period, approximately 60 000 BC (BCE) – c.650 AD (CE) was a period where cultural practices were established and societies became organised.
Legacies from ancient times have continued to impact on societies throughout history. A framework for developing students’ historical knowledge, understanding and skills is provided through an independent personal inquiry that is linked to student interests but focuses on the inquiry questions below.
